Andrian Grigor’yevich NIKOLAYEV (1929-2003)

Born in Chuvashia. Graduated from Chernigov Higher Military Aviation School for Pilots in 1954, from the N. Ye. Zhukovsky Air Force Academy in 1968. The cosmonaut of the first squad. In 1962, he made 64 orbits around the Earth on the Vostok-3 spacecraft together with P.R. Popovich, a pilot of the Vostok-4 spacecraft. In 1970, he made 286 orbits around the Earth on the Soyuz-9. Twice Hero of the Soviet Union. Honoured Master of Sports of the USSR. Honorary citizen of 19 cities.
Awarded four orders, medals. Laureate of the USSR State Prize.
The title of the Honorary Citizen of Polotsk was conferred in 1962.
