Revolver "Belgian Bulldog"

In the collection of firearms, presented in the exposition of the Museum of Local Lore, there is a rather interesting specimen. This revolver is the "Belgian Bulldog", which is one of the representatives of a large class of pocket weapons. It was produced in Belgium in 1878. The trunk, hilt and frame of weapons have the appearance of a single detail, which gives it special strength. A fairly short barrel and a small hilt make the revolver invisible and relieve it of excess weight. The caliber of the weapon is 9 mm (.38 in the original). The entire body of the revolver is artistically decorated with floral ornament.

Revolvers "bulldog" can be considered a classic of firearms. The prototype for them was Webley No. 2 Buldog. In view of this, the "bulldogs" differ from other types of the drums with such details as the opening of the drum door. This weapon not only enjoyed great popularity among the European population of the second half of the XIX century, but also "took part" in such a historic event as an attempt on the 20th US president.

Initially, the "bulldog" was released only in the British Isles, at the firm "Webley & Son", but the popularity and growth in demand for these revolvers contributed to the expansion of the geography of their production. The most massive series were produced by US and Belgian arms companies. "Bulldogs" were used as civilian and police weapons, and in some countries even stood in service in the army and navy
